Quality standards

Every print that comes out of KRM’s machines is created to delight the customer. One of the ways we take care of this goal is through meticulous quality control at every stage of design and production.

However, even unlimited imagination is sometimes subject to the limitations of technology and sometimes simply the laws of physics. This rarely happens at KRM, but you have the right to be fully informed on this issue.

Here you will find all the important details:

Quality procedure of the printing house KRM Druk Miller sp.k.

The following is a redacted procedure defining the quality standards applicable at the KRM Druk Miller sp.k. printing house. as well as permissible deviations from the ideal resulting from technological limitations and the quality of raw materials. Details of cooperation, ordering, terms of payment and complaints are described in detail in the document “Printing House Regulations”.

1. general quality standards

Digital printing technology guarantees very high quality reproduction, but there may be some imperfections discussed in detail in the following sections.

2. file quality check process

The ordering party is responsible for any errors left in the files it sends. Bearing in mind the client’s welfare and technological capabilities, KRM Druk checks the files for free:

correct number of pages
maintaining bleeds
actual format
quality of graphics for printing
embedding fonts

If one of the above-mentioned errors is found, the file is sent back to the customer with a request for correction.

The Printing House interferes with the Client’s files only at the Client’s request. In this case, the files after changes must be accepted by the Client before they are printed.
Items not subject to review by the Printing House include:

  • overprint
  • transparencies
  • discrepancies in assigning ISSN/ISBN codes
  • improperly prepared composition
  • spelling and typing errors
  • unreadable font
  • aesthetics and quality of graphics
  • Color discrepancy if the graphic is prepared in RGB
  • Pantone colors if not included in the order content

3. printing on KM1 machines:

Possible imperfections in the form of dashes/lines due to print head obstruction, especially visible on dark fields with high saturation and large area.

Unacceptable printing

Acceptable printing

Defects of the type “missing nozzles” (white dashes) resulting from temporary obstruction of the head. White dashes, which significantly affect the perception of the printout, are the basis for a complaint.

Unacceptable printing

Problems may be more pronounced on coated raw materials.

Unacceptable printing

Acceptable printing

4 Printing and colors

Color patterns:

  • The purchaser may provide a color pattern (proof) in accordance with ISO 12647-7. In its absence, color differences may occur.
  • Designs must be uniform; if there are several designs, specify which one is binding.

    Printing process:

  • In the absence of color guidelines, printing is carried out based on a preview of the graphic on a specialized ISO-compliant monitor.
  • Using the RGB color space in production files can cause significant color differences. We recommend saving your design in CMYK.

    Specific features:

  • With low-weight raw materials (70-80g), there may be waving of the paper and blocks due to the digital printing process.
  • Possibility of color discrepancies in further refinement (varnishing, foiling).

5. refinements

Varnishing:

  • Permissible deviation of spot/convex paint fit: <= 0.6 mm.
  • Unacceptable: > 0.7 mm.
  • Varnish floods the font < 7 pt.
  • Before applying varnish to uncoated paper, testing should be done. The account manager has a list of papers tested by the printer and approved for refining.
  • Varnish applied to creased areas may peel off. We recommend removing it from the mask or minimizing the thickness by adding a gradient.
  • We do not recommend varnishing surfaces previously foiled with gloss “gloss” film. The varnish may peel off especially in the thickness of > 50 microns.

    Metallized film:

  • Admissible edge ragging especially in rounds due to technological limitations (the file consists of pixels).
  • Use of fonts below 7 pt. will result in flooding of letters.
  • To increase the adhesion of the film ( to obtain thin lines and small parts), protect the substrate with “soft touch” film.
  • For the best effect of metallized film on a large area, you should protect the sheet with a matte film.
  • The metallized film is not resistant to abrasion and may scratch. To protect it, apply UV varnish to the film.

    Stamping:

  • The maximum depth of stamping should not cause the material to break.
  • Permissible deviation in stamping fit: <= 1 mm.

    Stamping:

  • Permissible deviation in the position of the die-cut parts: <= 1 mm.

6. bookbinding processes

  • Sheet cutting:

  • Deviations during slicing: <= 0.5 mm.

    Folding and perforation:
  • Deviation of the fracture to the fracture line:
  • Slicing and folding: 1.5 mm.
  • With additional die-cutting process: 2 mm.

    Staple binding:

  • Staples should be properly crimped and spaced:
  • Deviations for flat staples: <= 3 mm, for eyelets: <= 2 mm.

    Bonded binding:

  • Minimum spine thickness: 2 mm; maximum: 62 mm.
  • Bonding strength: sheets should be able to withstand > 4.5 N/cm.
  • Possible deviations:
    Dimensional stability: <= 1 mm.
Back graphic fit: <= 1.5 mm.

7. format of the finished product

  • Permissible format deviations: <= 0.5 mm.
  • Deviations from rectangularity: <= 0.5 mm.

8. packaging and shipping

  • Standard packaging:

  • standard packaging of packages in wrapping paper up to about 10 kg
  • Corrugated cardboard boxes (3-5 layers) in standard formats:
  • 400 mm x 280 mm x 120 mm
  • 365 mm x 240 mm x 120 mm
  • 303 mm x 216 mm x 120 mm

    Delivery time:

  • Domestic shipments up to 200 kg: 1 business day.
  • Domestic full-pallet shipments: 2 business days.
  • International shipments: 2 to 5 business days.

    Claims:

  • In case of damage to the shipment, the basis for acceptance is:
  • Writing down the protocol in the presence of the freight forwarder.
  • Photo documentation.
  • Complaints should be sent by email to reklamacje@krmdruk.com
